| Thallus rounded to irregular, 3–6 (–10) cm wide, closely attached centrally, ±ascending at the margin. Lobes 2–4 cm long, 5–15 mm wide, sublinear to irregular; margins thickened below, inrolled or downrolled, undulate, entire or phyllidiate-dissected. Upper surface red-brown to reddish olive when dry, ±thinly tomentose at the margins, glabrous centrally, matt, wrinkled to ±bullate, neither cracked nor torn, ±phyllidiate. Phyllidia marginal or developing from cracks in the upper surface, simple at first, becoming coralloid-branched and ±lobulate, 0.2–1.0 (–1.5) mm tall, concolorous with the upper surface or darker, not tomentose, scattered to densely crowded. Lower surface pale buff at the margin, darkening centrally. Veins conspicuous, raised, 0.2–0.8 mm wide, whitish or pale buff at the margin to brown centrally; interstices lenticular, whitish. Rhizines simple, pale to medium brown, 2–5 mm long. Apothecia 3–7 mm wide, finger-shaped or ±tubular, on narrow involute upturned lobes; disc dark red-brown, matt; margin pale buff, coarsely corrugate-scabrid. Ascospores not seen in Australian material; reported as acicular, 3–5-septate, 45–70 × 3–4 µm and hyaline to pale straw-coloured (Galloway, 2007). CHEMISTRY: No substances detected by TLC. |

| Known from a single collection from N.S.W.; grows over and among mosses with P. polydactylon. Widespread in the Northern Hemisphere; also in New Zealand. | ||
